The Moosmännchen springs from a legend in the Vogtland, which is later found across the Thuringian Forest to the Ore Mountains.Moosmännchen, sometimes also Moosfrauen, lived simply in the forests and helped the poor humans. They lived under tree trunks and were protected before poachers, if the forest workers had struck three crosses at the trunks. One thing was common to them, however, they wore a garment of moss and branches.

In order not to let this legend fall into oblivion, the company Christian Ulbricht has taken on the Moosmännel. With the smoking man Wichtel Moosmann lives the old history further. The Wichtel as smoking man is approx. 29 cm tall and has the typical appearance of a moss man. The green hat is covered with moss and two toadstools seem to sprout. His jacket made of moss has two large buttons and the green pants are in brown boots. On the pedestal two brown caps grow into the air. And the moss man does not come without gifts. Deep from the Ore Mountains forest he has collected mushrooms, acorns, cones, wood and twigs, which he carries in a basket lined with green checked cloth in his right hand. On his left hand a bird has settled, which accompanies him on his way. The moss man looks mischievously at his friends and with the pipe in the mouth he smokes with pleasure. The characteristic of the Ulbricht Wichtel consists of the knubelnase, which give the face something funny.
